What’s covered

Members may see any Molina Healthcare OB/GYN, midwife, or Primary Care Practitioner (PCP) for preventive health care. While Molina Healthcare of Michigan doesn't require referrals, check with your PCP to make sure there are no other referral needs. These services are available at no cost to you.

Breast Cancer Screening

If you are 40 to 74 years of age, talk to your provider about an annual breast screening (mammogram). Your provider should include a breast exam as part of your yearly health exam. This breast cancer screening helps detect early signs of breast cancer, which is easier to treat if found early.

Reproductive Health

As a Medicaid member, you may be eligible to receive family planning counseling, such as contraception, sexually transmitted infection (STI) testing and treatment, vaccines, and other reproductive health services.

Family planning services

  • Help to decide how many children to have
  • Information about and prescriptions for birth control. For example, condoms and birth control pills. There is no cost to receive these items.
  • Treatment for sexually transmitted infections (STIs)

Prior Approval (PA) is not required for family planning services, drugs, supplies and devices.

You can receive family planning services from any doctor, clinic or Local Health Department, in or out of network. Family planning services are voluntary and confidential. Medicaid will pay for all services received out of network. You will use your mihealthcard to receive services.

Contraceptive use

If you are not planning to become pregnant or want to protect yourself from becoming pregnant, there are many options. Birth control options include oral birth control, condoms, or implanted devices. Talk to your doctor about which method is best for you.

MDHHS offices or local health departments provide these services at no cost to you.

Cervical cancer screening (Pap smear)

Cervical cancer screening is recommended for individuals with a cervix, aged 25-65 years. A pap smear is part of a pelvic exam and should be done every 3-5 years for average-risk individuals. Cervical cancer is often caused by Human Papillomavirus (HPV) and is a type of cancer in the cells of the cervix.

Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI) screening

If you are sexually active, STI testing is one of the most important things you can do to protect your health. STIs often do not have symptoms, increasing serious health problems you may not know you have. STI screening is recommended once a year for sexually active women ages 16-64.

Sexually Transmitted Infection:

  • Using condoms EVERY time, ALWAYS! Always use a new check for tears or defects.
  • Getting vaccinated. Vaccines are recommended for individuals to prevent hepatitis B and HPV.
  • Regular testing between both you and your partner.
  • Hepatitis C screening recommended once per lifetime over the age of 18 and screening with Hepatitis C for each pregnancy.
